This new British restaurant brought to you by the same owners as Mary Queen of Scots and Highlands is inspired by the green gardens and train stations of London. I love the olive green accent on the benches and around the bar, and the white tiled walls give the place a clean, sharp look. The spacious maroon booths in the back room are perfect for big parties, and the bartenders and waitstaff are super eye catching. The restaurant is refreshing and uplifting and focuses on gin cocktails. Unfortunately, the kitchen tries too hard and the dishes are a bit too saucy. The brussels sprouts are overly dressed in butter yet provide just the right amount of crisp. The chicken is tender and juicy, but the real shining star is the duck terrine. Once placed on our table, I had a case of orders remorse, but it was a flavorful hit and awesome on top of the crunchy sesame bread. It’s definitely the best thing on the menu. Try the lamb for a fun interactive dish that comes with several side ingredients to dress up your meat. Whitehall is a warm, unfussy place to grab cocktails where you can enjoy an unpretentious yet trendy scene in the West Village.
