Despite being on one of the busiest streets in the West Village, Fish is a seafood bar that gets overlooked possibly because of its competitive neighbors: Pearl Oyster Bar and Mary’s Fish Camp. However, the inviting walk-up window with two seats for service and extremely casual tables and bar inside make it a friendly atmosphere to slurp up oysters and crack into seafood towers. It feels like one of those places that should have peanut shells on the floor, and the music is cranking Motown tunes like “Heatwave.” The restaurant has one of the best weekday lunch specials I’ve ever seen. If you get a day off or have a free day on a holiday weekend, spend it here. For $10.99 you can choose from: Grilled Salmon (2nd pic above), Catfish Sandwich, Fish ‘n Chips and Angels on a Horseback (oysters wrapped double smoked bacon) plus your choice of soup or salad. Yeah, you’ll want to frame this receipt. Beware it’s a lot of food, but this is cheaper than most cocktails in the city, y’all.
The Blackened Catfish Sandwich was a generous piece of seafood and way better than your typical “dirty” fish. I definitely recommend it and it comes on a thick, crunchy baguette. The fries with Old Bay Seasoning were stellar. The salmon took a back seat, but the Fish ‘n Chips looked out of this world. We still regret not getting them. The side salad was standard and good, and the clam chowder had a thinner base than most I’ve had. Once you dig into the Grill options the prices reach normal seafood standards such as: Lobster Roll $17, Chilean Sea Bass $24, Lobster Sheperd’s Pie $32, The restaurant feels like Boston and is very low-key. It’s definitely a spot on Bleecker you must hit up and that most of your friends haven’t visited.
There is also an All You Can Eat special everyday from 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. with Steamed, Maryland-Style Blue Crabs for $21.95.
