Best Dishes of 2013 in NYC

Big name chefs like Jean Georges, Michael White, Andrew Carmellini, Danny Bowien all revealed new projects this year; The Meatball Shop overtook the city by storm; Southeast Asian cuisine fine and casual introduced itself in the city; Vegan and gluten-free restaurants made a name for themselves and restaurants serving one item only like biscuits and taquitos populated the industry. However, the most memorable and best dishes of 2013 that made an impact on my stomach include:

  1. Sushi Dojo (East Village): Omakase – Tasmanian Trout (1st pic)
  2. Mighty Quinn’s BBQ (East Village): Sweet Potatoes and Brisket Burnt Ends
  3. Rogue & Canon (SoHo): Rogue Burger with Peanut Butter
  4. Toro (Meatpacking): Shisito Peppers and Paella
  5. The General (Bowery): Miso Seabass and Klondike Bar dessert (2nd pic)
  6. Hu Kitchen (West Village): Roasted Root Mashbowl with Thai Chicken (3rd pic
  7. Uncle Boons (Nolita): Golden Curry
  8. Carbone (West Village): Veal Parmesan
  9. ABC Cocina (Flatiron): Arroz con Pollo and Summer Sweet Corn
  10. Piora (West Village): Monkey Bread and Vegetable Salad

Now we can’t forget about all of the other restaurants that are still stellar and pulling through each day. Here is a list of the best 10 dishes I continued to love and eat again and again that you must not ever forget about:

  1. Saxon + Parole (Bowery): Brussels Sprouts
  2. Rosarito Fish Shack (Williamsburg): Ahi Tuna
  3. Katz’s Deli (Lower East Side): Pastrami on Rye with Mustard
  4. Barbuto (West Village): The Chicken!
  5. Minetta Tavern (West Village): Minetta burger
  6. Atlantic Grill (UES): Branzino and Toffee Cake
  7. The Meatball Shop (Everywhere): Kitchen Sink Salad with Pesto Chicken Meatballs
  8. Legend Bar & Restaurant (Chelsea): Chicken and Broccoli and Garlic Eggplant
  9. Aria Wine Bar (West Village): Lamb Ossobuco
  10. Scarpetta (Meatpacking): Braised Short Ribs and Spaghetti (below)
