Le Verdure, Mario Batali’s infamous vegetarian restaurant, is housed in his 50,000-square foot Italian grocery store and restaurant empire, Eataly. I never thought I’d be so indecisive and tempted to order everything at a vegetarian restaurant, but the variety of options and decadent flavors make Le Verdure a winner. Go for the bruschetta special every time without a doubt. It’s always the best dish and bursting with fresh and seasonal ingredients. I’m also a big fan of the farro salad and raw vegetable salad.
The most interesting thing about Eataly is that it’s one of the only places in New York that is loved and inhabited by locals, foreigners AND visitors. There is always a wait, at least 15-20 min, so if you can, snag a seat at the counter (FYI first come first serve). You can enjoy the company of the chefs and servers and watch them plate their masterpieces. It’s also a comfortable spot for those dining alone, and one of the more affordable Mario Batali restaurants. Eataly is a go-to when in need of a healthy meal that doesn’t short you on creativity or flavor!
***Other restaurants in Eataly include: Manzo, Il Pesce, La Pasta & La Pizza and Birreria, the rooftop beer garden and brewery open year-round with a retractable roof.
