This original 1940’s store is hands down the mecca of all cheese shops in New York City. Why would you go anywhere else to get your party platters? Since owner Rob Kaufelt took over, the shop uses five temperature humidity-controlled cheese caves to age, ripen and grow the cheeses creating the best product. The educated staff can pin your desires and suggest cheeses to make your taste buds dance! They also offer amazing cheese classes in-house, teach wine pairings at City Winery and offer a Cheese U Boot Camp –an intense three day weekend all about cheese ideal for you cheese maniacs.
Luckily, MCS offers a great panini press for those wanting to get in, grab a bite and be on their way. They offer breakfast melts/burritos, seven sandwiches for lunch and a build-your-own Murray Melt where you can customize and add on items such as: Pesto Mayo, Salami, Turkey, Fried Egg, Basil or Piri Piri (Portuguese hot sauce). The under $10 sandwiches are a steal, and the melts include Murray’s special/secret blend of two cheeses which emits a strongish taste. Jump on in here to grab a sandwich, pick-up meticulously cared for cheeses for a party or picnic or to attend entertaining events!
They now have their own restaurant next door and just as you expected it’s made of all things cheese. Check out some fondue and mac ‘n cheese.
