What is better than $34 (per person) for family-style meatballs, antipasto, pizza, brussels sprouts and all you can drink wine and beer for two hours in NYC? You tell me. San Marzano is filled with long tables ideal for party-goers, drinkers and eaters. Don’t be discouraged you parties of two, smaller groups and non-drinkers, as there is still room and you can order off the regular menu. This place heats up right when you walk in due to everyone’s energy and ready to attack mentality. The appetizers the chef selected for us were everything we would have chosen anyway so it was a great deal over all. I loved the soft brussels sprouts and cheesy topping, and the mass amount of tomato sauce on the meatballs is plenty allowing you to make a clean sweep with their puffy pita style bread that is truly addicting (see photo below). We were served about five different pizza with ingredients such as: proscuitto, goat cheese, caramelized onions, shiitake and button mushrooms, white truffle oil and more, but the Margherita took home the trophy. The staff is very accommodating and always on top of their game- filling up your wine glass as often as possible. However, don’t think you can go over the two hour limit and don’t think of this place as a college student joint constantly popping bottles. Although it can be loud, the food is great and San Marzano is one of the most underrated group dining restaurants. It’s prime location to the Lower East side bars makes it a spot you definitely have to hit ASAP.
