Another fun New York City Wine & Food Festival event from the weekend was Sweet – hosted by the lovely Sandra Lee and sponsored by Godiva Chocolate and Absolut Vodka. Unfortunately, arriving a tad late, we missed a few of the popular, must-have desserts. However, there were still plenty of scrumptious morsels to consume! Over 30 pastry chefs and bakeries showcased their sugary creations including renown wedding cake baker Ron Ben-Israel. See below for a recap from the evening.
The event was located on the second floor of 82Mercer, a special events space in SoHo aka a trendy warehouse. The exposed brick, high ceilings and wooden floors created an ideal atmosphere for this large event. Notable bakeries present included: Francois Payard, Sprinkles and BabyCakes. Astor Bake Shop’s cake ball lollipops infused with POM were beautifully decorated with edible gold (see 3rd pic above). I teared up a bit after looking at Serious Eats amazing slideshow realizing I missed Locande Verde’s ice cream sandwich on spice cake rounds and Doughnut Plant’s crème brûlée doughnut and peanut butter and jelly doughnut. Good thing I know where to find them!
Chek Recs from the Evening:
- Fat Witch Bakery: Brownies (always a winner and sold in Chelsea Market!)
- Tonnie’s Minis: Red Velvet Cupcakes
- Godiva Chocolate Cupcakes (1st pic)
- Abe & Arthur’s: French Toast Bread Pudding with Godiva Chocolate Chip-Butter Pecan Ice Cream (2nd pic)
p.s. Best advice for next year: DO take advantage of the outrageous photo booths available at all events. These things come with high-tech amenities such as: wind blowing machines, loud music and digital screens recommending themes and poses for each photo shoot. See y’all next year – Oct. 4th -7th, 2012!
