by CHLOE is quite possibly the most popular restaurant for millennial females to sit, eat, and stay for a while in the West Village right now. Boys on the other hand will only be seen popping in for pick-up and then immediately evacuating the sorority house like scene. Why on earth are all of these ladies rushing to a new vegan restaurant and why is every fashion blogger going to make this the new Jack’s Wife Freda? For one, the place is clean, artsy, and looks like it was built carefully from a Pinterest page. The other plus is you order at the counter and then find a seat. No hassle reservations and healthy food. It’s all someone could ask for these days.
Men, do not fear the “vegan” label as the menu offers quite a bit of comfort food including: Mac n Cheese, Burgers, Kale + Artichoke Dip, Avocado Pesto Pasta, Fries, etc. The line may be towards the back of the door, but it moves pretty swiftly. My favorite salad is the Quinoa Taco with spicy chorizo, black bean, sweet corn, avocado, tomato, tortilla strips, crema, agave-lime vinaigrette. You can’t tell the chorizo is of another kind of “meat” and all the Mexican flavors blend in perfectly. It’s crunchy, filling, and delicious. The Kale Caesar is another popular option if you are in the mood for some simple greens. The dressing is legit. The other two salad options are a Spicy Thai with peanut dressing and The Greek with chickpeas, cucumber, tomato, tofu feta, basil, etc. The Classic Burger is a tempeh-lentil-chia-walnut patty served on a potato bun, and there is also a Guac Burger and Pesto Meatball sandy. Make sure you share the Mac ‘n Cheese which is made with a sweet potato-cheese sauce and shiitake bacon. You can’t even tell this is dairy free and the sweet potato sauce is yellow in color and has a hint of sweetness that ups this traditional comfort food dish to a new level.
Don’t forget about the bakery goods. The Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie is moist and soft. Get it for your appetizer, or you can hold out for the dairy free cups of Kale Cookies in Cream Ice Cream. By Chloe is a great place for grab and go, a quick post Soul Cycle dinner, and an effortless spot to meet friends or for a Sunday night dinner.
