Jeffery’s Grocery is the kind of pal you want to keep around – always spontaneous and showers you with yummy presents and good company. The menu changes regularly, and the best part is that no matter what’s on there even if you think you don’t like an ingredient, it is always overly impressive! The kitchen has no gas and only induction burners because the space used to be a vet. This proves that you can turn anything into success if you want to.
The decor is entertaining and distracting. There are pressed tin ceilings, old sail boat knick knacks on shelves above the bar and a coyote head mounted on the wall. Locals come here looking for sophisticated, casual food with high expectations. The chicken, which I usually refuse to order while dining out, is so tender you could break it open with your hand. Although you can find risotto at most places, the vegetable risotto is fresh, flavorful and to die for. However, it will disappear before your eyes if you don’t keep up with the rest of your companions. Jeffrey’s is my favorite kind of dining experience because the menu forces you to try new things, and you’ll always release a draw dropping face after each bite!
***Tip: Skip the wait and eat dinner at the bar. It adds to your experience. Also, try Gabe Stulman’s other West Village stars: Joseph Leonard and Fedora.
