Pastis is part of Keith McNally‘s brilliant empire. His enchanting restaurants stretch all over Manhattan. Each has his signature glass bottles lining the bar and shiny, large, opaque-ish mirrors that create romantic lighting. Dishrags are used as napkins, chairs are little, and the men’s and women’s bathrooms are linked by a”co-ed” sink -mixing things up a bit. All of the waiters seem to be from Europe (no hipsters or starving artists allowed). One thing you’ll find here that you won’t find at many New York City eateries: Pastis is as poplar with tourists as it is with locals and celebrities. The outdoor seating and proximity to the The Highline makes it a perfect brunch spot. For dinner, I would recommend one of his other restaurants below for tastier food. No matter what, the scene is upbeat and fashionable – be sure to dress the part!
***Tip: Make a reservation a month in advance for prime time dining. Also, “chek” out KM’s other gems: Schiller’s Liquor Bar (LES), Morandi (West Village), Balthazar (SoHo), Minetta Tavern (West Village), Pulino’s Bar & Pizzeria (Bowery)
Nostalgic 🙂
