Union Square Cafe

Did you hear the good news?… Danny Meyer’s first restaurant, Union Square Cafe, started serving brunch a month ago! The exceptional service, white table cloths and peaceful atmosphere has always made it the ideal place to celebrate an anniversary, engagement or spot to entertain parents/grandparents. Danny Meyer’s empire of superstar restaurants truly shapes New York City’s hospitality and fining dining scene; however, Union Square Cafe feels like it’s straight out of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s 90’s flick, Sleepless in Seattle, and could use a facelift or renovation.

The ingredients are locally sourced from Union Square GreenMarket just feet away, and the freshness is apparent immediately after your first bite! It’s also obvious that each dish is crafted with extreme care and attention to detail. The Zucchini and Eggplant Parmigiano with a sunny side up egg is surprisingly light and innovative (even though eggs are being tossed on everything these days, I haven’t seen this). The french toast is soft and crunchy and could be mistaken for an apple pie. I wouldn’t recommend this for a fun Sunday brunch with friends, but if you have been dying to try the restaurant, brunch is an affordable alternative to dinner. Oh how I love any excuse to go to a Danny Meyer restaurant!
